Freedom from Gender Inequality

The fact that we are human makes us equal, and the mind which seeks for liberty makes it unequal.

In 2020, gender inequality is still an issue, we need to ask ourselves, why is it still prevailing?

After ruminating lots of incidents that I’ve witnessed, I found that it prevails because of the perspective of an each individual.

Because as a society we have an orthodox approach, when it comes to our women or transgender or even men. We tend to say “Act like a woman, “Act like a guy” and many other glib remarks.

As a girl, growing up in an open-minded family, I still face these remarks from society when I try to follow my dreams or voice out my opinion.

Because subconsciously, we’ve been embedded many old stigmas, no matter how many rules, laws, acts or policies are formulated until we as society start changing our perspective about observing a situation and not becoming a boulder in someone’s path to life.

Change starts from our home where we value girl-child, where we let her dream, where every girl is given equal opportunity as boys in every field. Equality comes when we do not discriminate daily household chores and careers between boys and girls. It starts from our parents then our schools and colleges also play an integral role in shaping the perspective of the society.

It is said “If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a nation

Independence Day should not only be celebrated for our country’s freedom but also as a freedom from old stigmas and beliefs that prevails within our society.

As an individual I believe in a saying which is appropriate when we speak about Gender inequality, “Change your perspective, only then you will inspire the world to change.”
